THE GLEN

Designed for a private client as a self-build project, this steel framed modernist family home is modest in scale yet rich in detail.

The  base is, for the most part, transparent owing to the large glazed openings that allow the inside and outside to have a direct relationship. The simple open plan downstairs living is arranged around a central 'service core' containing stair, built in storage and powder room, and clad in wood panelling to match the exterior siding.

The more solid wooden box above houses 4 bedrooms and 3 baths is clad in iroko and provides a beautiful contrast to the white stucco and glazing below. The vertical siding provides a sense of height and the box appears to sit lightly on its base below.

A large custom skylight above the bespoke wood stair brings light down into the plan and adds drama to the sequence of moving through the compact circulation spaces.

I was co-designer on the project and worked as Architect on SD through to CD.

I undertook the design of the wood siding along with the specification of exterior materials and aluminum glazing systems. Production of interior design for bespoke staircase detailing. Coordination of consultant information both in design and during construction. Providing support and site visits to the client during the build.
